Saturday evening was fairly warm and the mosquitos were doing a number on me. Wasn't expecting to see much, but as it started
to cool down with sunset deer started working out into the corn fields I was watching. First at 6:00, 4 does and a small 6
pointer made their way past my stand. With the shifting wind I was really second guessing my stand selection for the night.
The does seemed really spooked. About 30 minutes passed as I watched them feed out though the field, when i heard a stick
crack directly behind me. I turned around slowy to see a very respectable 8 pointer working a scrape. After he was done demolishing
an over hanging branch he started walking towards the cornfield. He slipped behind a tree and I came to full draw, but he
stopped behind the tree for what seemed like forever. I'm thinking oh great, I'm done he's winded me. Finally he took about
3 steps and his vitals were showing and he was quartering away at 22 yards. I let her fly and double lunged him. He only
ran about 70 yards before piling up. I couldn't be happier with this buck, he is my best so far beating my previous 8 pointer
by 2 3/4 inches. I've scored him at 106 1/8inches.
